Over 78,000 people are receiving support for the first time under the NDIS

Aged Care March 7, 2019

As at January 2019, over 250,000 Australians are now receiving support under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and 78,000 of those are receiving support or funding for the first time.

The NDIS gives individuals the choice to live an active and independent life. A recent survey of NDIS participants aged 25 and over, found that 75 percent of them agreed that the NDIS has helped them exercise more choice and control in their life.

“The NDIS is one of the most important social reforms in Australian History; We have been driving hard to get the NDIS rolled out across Australia. Reaching this milestone means that a quarter of a million Australians with a disability are now being empowered to live and achieve their goals“ said Minister for Family and Social Services, Paul Fletcher.

These supports are designed to help people live an active and independent life, as well as giving them choice and control. One-in-three Australians on the NDIS are receiving support for the first time. Finally, people who desperately need care are getting the help that they deserve.

By 2020, the NDIS will provide $22 billion in funding a year to an estimated 460,000 people with a disability – and contribute to the creation of 90,000 jobs in the disability sector across Australia. This support is life changing and allows people to be in control of the care that they receive.

Online marketplaces like Mable allow you to choose who supports you and when at generally much more affordable rates. That means you could potentially get more hours of funding from the same package. Learn how to get started with the NDIS and how Mable and the NDIS interact.
