Five ways to dust off your profile in 2018

So, you’ve had a think about boosting your business in 2018 and you’re full of ideas. But have you looked at your profile lately?

When it comes to your profile, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to think it’s the only one out there. Finding and hiring workers directly through an online marketplace gives clients more choice than ever before. And thanks to our advanced search functionality, they might have heaps of profiles to look at. So, they’re going to respond to the profile which really jumps out at them. The one which is clear, colourful and concise. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Tell us about you

Another mistake workers can make on their profiles is to “set and forget”. Your profile is a living, breathing reflection of who you are, and, when you’re doing this kind of work, you’ll be developing new skills all the time. As you get to know your clients, you may realise you have interests and hobbies in common, too. All good things to go back into your bio which you need to keep concise, preferably no more than 150-200 words. You can even take your profile one step further and create a Facebook page, something many workers on the platform are doing.

  1. Keep it fresh

If you’ve got new qualifications or your work history has changed, make sure you update your profile to reflect this. The same goes for your rates, which you might realise aren’t in line with what clients are paying in your area or for your skills. Search for other workers in your area to see how you compare.

  1. Work it

Two really important components of your profile are your response time and your feedback, as they affect how you’re ranked in search results. Make sure you’re really proactive in asking for feedback from existing clients.   1. Widen your area

The more suburbs you’re willing to work in, the greater your chances of showing up in search results. But at the same time, it’s important to update your profile if this changes so you don’t let clients down.

  1. Smile for the camera!

Take a good profile pic. If you’ve ever bought something off Gumtree or dabbled in online dating, you’ll know that everyone is suspicious of a bad photo or no photo. We have plenty of tips but most importantly, keep it friendly and simple. Face and smile for the camera, go easy on the make-up and have a plain background. You can even provide a selfie but it could take multiple goes.
