We recently gave you some tips for making a great impression online once you’ve registered on the Better Caring platform. Once your house is in order, you have a complete profile and you’re active on social media, here’s what you can do offline to grow your business.
Visit the printers
The Better Caring platform provides you with a digital copy of print-ready personalised business cards and flyers (at no charge). Here’s how to download them straight from your account.
Find a buddy
If you haven’t already, join our Facebook Community of Care and Support Workers. Even better, go to a meet-up group of care and support workers in your area. Our business development team may be able to facilitate a kick-off meeting in your area or give you the tools to set it up yourself. Contact Jodie Schleusner for more information.
We have some great stories of workers who “buddy up” to share and refer work to each other. This means the client receives continuity of care and you can choose the hours you work! Our support team can help identify someone in your area.
Tell the world
Get the word out. Ask your friends, family, sports buddies and everyone you meet if they know anyone who needs care or support, and ask them to refer them to you.
Nothing beats good old-fashioned door-knocking. Here are some places you can distribute flyers and cards:
- Public and private hospitals – ask for the discharge nurse, social workers or aged care team
- Health professionals such as GPs, physiotherapists and pharmacists
- Carelink and Carer Respite Centres
- Local council information centres
- Retirement villages and nursing homes
- Hospice day centres for people with disabilities
- Rehabilitation centres
- Senior citizen centres
- Retirement Villages
- District nursing services
- Multicultural groups
- Carer support groups run by, for example, Alzheimer’s Australia
- Service clubs: Rotary, Lions and Probus
You’ll likely need to visit them a few times before they remember you and get to know you. You can get many of the addresses and phone numbers from your local council.
Ask your clients
Aside from the referrals you will get from Better Caring, the number one way to grow your business is through referrals from your existing or former clients, especially if they’re delighted clients. Ask them to refer anyone they know who needs care or support.
Know your stuff
Our clients love that they now have the choice and control to design their own team of paid supports. However, an online marketplace where consumers and workers can find each other is a novel concept, so not everyone will know about Better Caring and how it works. Make sure you read up on Consumer Directed Care and the NDIS so clients understand how they can use their funding.
Lastly, make sure you understand the process clients will need to go through to sign up on the platform and start working with you (hint: it’s very simple!).
