Meet Inaam: mother of four and independent support worker on Better Caring

Many support workers begin assisting clients through Better Caring because it means earning a little extra income, finding flexible work and being independent. For Inaam from Western Sydney, providing support through Better Caring meant discovering her career passion. This is her story.

“I’ve always enjoyed helping older generations be active and healthy.”

For three years, Inaam studied to become a personal trainer specialising in assisting the elderly. But in 2017, a friend recommended Better Caring to her, and over the following months her passion became clear.

“Better Caring was really close to what I wanted to do. Now my interest lies completely in support work.”

Inaam initially joined Better Caring to apply her knowledge from her studies to help those requiring aged care, but she quickly connected with two clients living with a disability and was able to expand her support services in unexpected ways.

From assisting clients living with a disability to complete university courses, use public transport and move home to helping aged care clients maintain a healthy environment, Inaam now provides a diverse range of support to a number of clients.

“To know that I’ve helped someone out and seeing the satisfaction on their face makes providing support so much more than just work.”

Although she came to Better Caring fresh from her studies and with little experience, Inaam quickly connected with clients through Better Caring who were looking for domestic assistance and social support.

“Quite instantly after I signed up I began receiving notifications. It is really hard for me to say no because I want the client to receive the support they require.”

The flexibility of the Better Caring platform means Inaam can balance 30 hours of support work and spend time with her four children.

“My clients and I can communicate really easily through the platform and it’s designed to fit the best interests of both the worker and the client. I think my work has improved my kids’ lives because I can share stories of my day with them, and I think it makes them more compassionate to hear what I do.”

The work she’s found through Better Caring has also brought Inaam closer to her local community, and fostered connections with those that share her culture: “One of my clients speaks Arabic, so she always tells me I’m amazing in Arabic – we always have a great time together”.

After forging so many long-lasting connections, Inaam can now clearly see her career path.

“I really do see myself being a support worker for the rest of my career – working through Better Caring has made me realise I really want to keep improving my services. It’s become my passion.”
