Tips for creating the perfect job post on Mable

The Mable platform gives you access to the largest community of independent support workers in Australia. Whether you’re looking for someone to offer occasional social support, or a seasoned support worker who can provide daily personal support, there’s more than one way you can find them. One of these ways is to post a job – here’s how to go about it.

If you’re new to the Mable platform, you’ll quickly find that it’s pretty simple to use. It’s free to sign up, but even before you do, you have the ability to search for independent workers in your area.

When you do search, you can use our filters to select things that are important to you. Maybe you’re looking for specific skills and qualifications. Or perhaps you want to engage someone who can speak your language, or who has the same interests as you. Whatever filters you choose, you’ll be able to see a list of relevant support workers in your vicinity and decide who you want to contact via the platform. Once you complete the quick sign up process, you can start a conversation with your chosen workers.The hardest thing is to find a perfect match, so you should also look at workers that are a close match, and if they might be able to acquire the skills you need. Or you might be able to find what you’re looking for in two workers or a team of workers. If you’re getting stu might need to reduce filters and re-post the job, or post two jobs to cover the different things needed.

Why post a job? 

Once you have signed up to Mable, you also have the ability to ‘post a job’, which is a description of your requirements that’s sent out to independent workers via the platform who have identified that they provide services in your area. Relevant workers can then choose to respond to your job post via the platform to let you know they’re interested. In fact, in most instances, we would recommend you both search and post a job to find what you need faster.

There are a few reasons you might want to post a job in addition to directly reaching out to specific support workers. Firstly, it’s efficient. If you need someone to provide support at the last minute, it’s the quickest way to reach the greatest number of independent workers in your area.

You’ll likely only receive responses from workers who are genuinely interested in the job and all it entails. If you search for workers then decide to approach one directly, it can be the case that they aren’t able to deliver exactly what you’re looking for, or they may not be available on the days you need them.

Posting a job also allows you to get your requirements down in one place, so you can be really clear about what you’re looking for. It can be particularly helpful if you’re looking for something very specific – like someone with a flair for baking who can support you in the kitchen.

What should I include in a job post?

When you post a job, you will be guided on what information you need to provide. First, there are the basics; 

  • date and time of the job (and whether this is flexible);
  • location for the job;
  • hours the support worker will be required; and, 
  • whether the job is ongoing or a one-off. 

You will then have an opportunity to enter specific details about what the job will involve. Here’s where you can increase the likelihood that you’ll attract the most suitable candidate. Here’s what we recommend:

  • Include as much detail as possible in the post about what the job will involve so potential workers know what to expect. 
  • Make sure you specify if there are any ‘non-negotiables’, like specific qualifications that the support worker must have.
  • Write a little about yourself, as well as the type of person you’re looking for to help potential workers identify whether you’re suited.
  • Don’t be afraid to stand out! Just as much as independent workers are hoping to secure some great clients, you’re looking to engage the best support workers out there. So, make your job post stand out by giving it some flavour. 

If you are busy, let independent know via the job post that it might be a week before you’re able to respond. It’s important to set this expectation with independent workers so they know when to expect a response.

What happens after I post a job?

Once the job is posted, it will be sent to the inbox of independent workers in your area. Independent workers who see the job post have the opportunity to contact you via the platform. You can then review their profile and start a conversation. 

If you don’t think one of the workers that has replied is right for the job, it’s important to let them know either way. 

Once you’ve found the right person and have agreed the terms of the job, they will send you an agreement. Once you’ve accepted the agreement, then you’re ready to receive support on your terms. 
You should then ‘close’ the job on the platform, so that independent workers in your post has been filled.
